On April 16, 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change issued notice of the Greenhouse Gases Emissions Intensity (GEI) Target Rules, 2025. The Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), which supports India's obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement, has a compliance mechanism established by the Rules.
In addition to outlining gradual reduction targets for 2025–2026 and 2026–2027, the draft rules establish baseline emissions for 2023–2024. For industries including aluminium, cement, pulp and paper, and chlor-alkali, specific goals have been set. Major corporations like Vedanta and Ultratech are among the 282 industrial units that are impacted.
With the introduction of the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India (GHCI), India just made a step forward in its transition to sustainable energy dubbed Green Hydrogen which is produced using renewable energy sources. The plan will establish a transparent certification mechanism for green hydrogen generation, increasing market trust and transparency.
Every Indian producer of green hydrogen, with the exception of those who only produce for export, is required to go through a certification process. Certification guarantees that only sustainable energy sources are used to manufacture hydrogen. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency's (BEE) Accredited Carbon Verification (ACV) Agencies will perform the certification. Green hydrogen certificates will be traded assets inside the carbon trading ecosystem starting in 2026, following the opening of India's carbon market.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was recently recommended to be demoted from the "A" to the "B" status by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). Concerns regarding the NHRC's impartiality and efficacy in investigating human rights abuses led to this decision. Through a network of national institutions, the GANHRI was founded in 1993 with the mission of promoting and defending human rights throughout the world.
In order to end police participation in investigations, the SCA (Sub-Committee on Accreditation) has asked the NHRC to push for changes to the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA). It also suggested strengthening collaboration with civil society and increasing the transparency of the selection procedures. The SCA pointed out that although the NHRC has taken some action, systematic abuses have not been adequately addressed.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) introduced the Sachet smartphone application with the goal of enhancing India's readiness for disasters. It was recently brought up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his "Mann ki Baat" speech. The Sachet app is made to provide geotagged warnings concerning different disasters in real-time.
The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) daily weather forecasts and updates are available on the app. Important information is provided to users by authorised government sources. Important resources like hotline numbers and disaster management dos and don'ts are also included in the app. Its satellite link, which guarantees communication in the event of severe emergencies when conventional networks can malfunction, is one noteworthy aspect.
A nationwide initiative called AI Kiran was started to encourage women in India to hold leadership positions in artificial intelligence (AI). The effort intends to overcome the gender gap in this quickly developing industry since the country's AI market is expected to reach $17 billion by 2027. It is co-led by INK Women, Verix (a blockchain-powered credentialing platform), and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India.
AI Kiran supports a multi-stakeholder strategy. In order to give women access to resources and assistance, it promotes collaborations between governmental entities, business associations, and civil society organisations. This partnership is crucial to fostering an atmosphere in AI where women can flourish. The Manthan Platform will host AI Kiran to reach more professionals, researchers, and students.
Pakistan recently declared that the Cholistan Canal Project would be suspended because of rising internal dissension and tensions with India. India's unilateral decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) on hold was followed by this ruling.
The Green Pakistan Initiative, which aims to turn the Cholistan Desert into agricultural land, includes the Cholistan Canal Project. Six canals will be built as part of the project to irrigate more than 1.2 million acres in southern Punjab. It is anticipated to improve agricultural hub development, employment creation, and food security. The Pakistan Army is supporting the project, which seeks to boost agricultural output.

Between January and March 2025, 487 districts reported no cases of rubella and 332 districts reported no cases of measles. The goal of the program is to vaccinate every child.
Rubella and measles are both extremely contagious viral illnesses. They may result in serious health issues or even death. In order to prevent these diseases, vaccination is essential. Eligible children aged 9-12 months and 16-24 months can receive two doses of the measles-rubella vaccination for free as part of the program.
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken action to build the country's first Quantum Computing Village in Amaravati. The goal of this project is to establish a cutting-edge environment for quantum computing research and cooperation. The centre will act as a central location for businesses and organisations to access cutting-edge resources for quantum computing.

The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Broad Gauge Rail Link Project includes this milestone. A crucial stage in tunnel building is a tunnel breakthrough, which occurs when two tunnel ends that are being dug meet. The 172nd anniversary of India's first railway service fell on the same day as the breakthrough.
Eighty-three percent (104 km) of the 125 km Rishikesh-Karnaprayag project is made up of tunnels.
